Acting Inspector Michael Madgwick said the would-be thieves gained entry via a glass window in a door at the side of the business.
Once inside they rifled through drawers looking for cash and used a jemmy bar to try to force open the front door.
Acting Inspector Madgwick said the thieves did not find anything as a result of their efforts.

POLICE are also investigating an incident of malicious damage at Young’s Hilltops Abattoir.
A cleaner at the facility called police around 2.50am when they heard a window smash.
Police discovered that vandals had thrown a rock at a demountable building at the back of the abattoir.
ARBORETUM Park on Main Street has also been targeted by vandals.
Police fielded a call from a local citizen who said a barbecue at the park had been damaged as thieves tried to remove a hotplate.
Apparently tiles surrounding the barbecue were chipped in the process.
