But the town also has the lowest average annual wage.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics this week released the latest regional statistics from 2013 - everything from male and female populations, annual wages and housing values to the total number of businesses and even registered motor vehicles.
Young has peaked at the top of the table in most of the categories compared to surrounding towns Cowra, Cootamundra, Boorowa and Temora.
The shire has the highest population of 12,699 residents, scraping in just above Cowra - Young’s closest competitor - by 148 people.
Young also has the most number of women (6429), 238 more than Cowra, 2500 more than Cootamundra, more than twice as much as Temora and five times more than Boorowa.
There are 159 more women than men in Young - Cootamundra, on the other hand, have 229 more women than men.
But Cowra takes the crown for having the most men in the region, at 6360, compared to Young’s 6270.
Cowra and Boorowa are the only two towns out of the five that have more men than women in their communities.
Young’s median (middle) age is 40.3 years, which means the town’s population is an estimated five years younger than Cowra, Boorowa and Temora, and seven years younger than Cootamundra.
And the good news keeps coming for the vibrant Cherry Capital, which has a total of 1394 businesses in the shire - 223 of those employing five people or more.
That’s 258 more businesses than Cowra, and between 600 and 1070 more than Cootamundra, Temora and Boorowa.
Young also has the most registered motor vehicles of 10,611 - only two more than Cowra though.
Our main employing industry is agriculture at 16 per cent.
Interestingly Cootamundra is the only town out of the five neighbours whose main employing industry is retail at 12 per cent.
But Young sits at the bottom of the charts when it comes to annual wages, with local workers earning an average $37,910 per year.
Cowra again only just trumps Young by $22 more a year, but Cootamundra has the highest average annual wage of $41,391.
The tiny towns of Boorowa and Temora - with populations only between 2500 and 6000 people - have an average annual wage of $39,024 and $38,122 respectfully.
And Young sits in the middle when comparing values of local homes at an average of $273,000.
Cowra takes the highest average house value of $292,000, with Temora coming in a close second on $291,000.
