As they had done every week, the Under 11s Roosters team had played a game in the Young Junior Rugby League town competition at Keith Cullen Oval on June 20.
Once the game was over, coach Andrew McIllhatton packed the team’s 15 jerseys into a navy blue sports bag and sat them in the club’s changeroom, ready to take home to wash.
But when Andrew went back to retrieve the jerseys about 2.30pm, the bag had disappeared.
At first club members thought someone or a visiting team had taken them by mistake and made some phone calls.
But Young Junior Rugby League Club president Nick Hall said that shed no light on the mysterious disappearance.
So they are assuming the disappearance was the work of light-fingers.
“We’re not pointing any fingers, we just want them back,” Nick said.
Andrew said they’d be happy if whoever had them just dropped them back off at the oval anonymously.
“It’s just disappointing,” he said.
His team has had to wear replacement Rabbitohs jerseys in the meantime.
The jerseys - red, white and navy blue in colour and displaying the local club logo and sponsors - are worth about $50 each.
They were packed inside a navy blue Spartan brand sports bag.
Sergeant Kristin Marshall of Young Police said at this stage police were treating the incident as a theft.
Young Police are asking anyone who may have any information on the jerseys to call them on 6382 8199.
