LET’S FACE it, it’s pretty rare for anyone from Young to say they’ve performed at the Sydney Opera House.

But for one local student it’s becoming something of a regular occurrence.
Year 7 Hennessy Catholic College student, Milli Bolger, is preparing to head to the iconic harbourside building next week where she will perform for the second time in a year.
Milli - a Grade 3 violinist - was one of several students entered into a lottery system by The Young Regional School of Music (YRSM).
A selection panel in Sydney chose her and 17 others to represent each conservatorium in regional NSW at the event.
Milli was selected for the intermediate section (Grades 1-4) and has been busily practising for her big moment - last week taking a lesson via video link.
She heads to Sydney on Tuesday where she will spend two days rehearsing with both the Australian Youth Orchestra and the Australian World Orchestra.
She will then perform on the Sydney Opera House concert stage under internationally renowned conductor Sir Simon Rattle on Thursday.
It is a huge step for the Young girl who first learnt to play the violin in kindergarten, plays clarinet for the YRSM stage band, sings for the Young Theatre Company and is about to sit her Grade 5 piano exam.
“Considering there’s not many chances to play the violin in an orchestra, in Young especially, I think it is going to be really exciting,” she said.
“I’m sure Millie will have a sensational time in Sydney working with the best young musicians in the country,” YRSM CEO James Cronin said.
