Blayney started strong in Thursday’s match at Keith Cullen Oval, gaining possession of the ball for 90 per cent of first half.
James Schiller broke Blayney’s defense late in first half to tighten the score at 4-6 come half time.
Young High showed their authority in second half when they took control of the game to score two tries.
Young were eventual winners of the tough match in a 12-6 result.
Parent Brad Pettit ran the boys on the day and said it was a fine effort for the Under 14s who came up against a reasonably larger side.
“Will Hill at lock had a great game,” Pettit said.
“He tackled all day and made a couple of big breaks, but in general the whole side stood up.
“None of these boys have played for five weeks, so it wasn’t a bad effort.”
Last week’s match was the toughest the boys have faced in the competition yet, after defeating Cootamundra and Wagga by 50 points each, and Tumut by 30 points most recently.
Details of the next match hadn’t been released at time of going to press, but Pettit believes Young will take on a south coast or Sydney side in the next round.
“The boys are going to get a hell of a lot bigger again - two years ago when we went there the kids were massive,” he said.
“But for a country side these boys are one of the better sides I’ve seen come through in terms of their ticker, which probably all comes back to Garry Lucas’ training with the Under 14 Cherrypickers.”
Tries: James Schiller (2) and Josh Baker (1).
