Commonly known as Legends Day, the NSW Bowling Greenkeepers play the Bowls NSW Legends in a bowls tournament, this year being held at Corrimal Bowling Club, near Wollongong.
Miller - a 24-year-old who has been Young Bowling Club’s greenkeeper for seven years - was selected by the NSW Bowling Greenkeepers Association to compete after demonstrating skill and dedication to the sport.
He is among a group of 24 players to represent the association and, if word of mouth is anything to go by, it’s going to be a tough day.
The tournament is known to draw international bowls legends out of retirement in order to defend their reputation on the green.
“There’s very fierce, competitive rivalry between us apparently - so I’ve been told,” Miller said.
But he won’t let that interfere with getting to know his opposition.
“Even talking to these guys is a big thing for some people - some are absolute legends of the game themselves, and some come out of retirement for this game to keep us in our place,” he said.
“We’ve prepared the greens they’ve played on and now we get to verse them, so it’s a really good opportunity.
“Win, lose or draw I just hope I play well enough to be invited back!” he laughed.
Miller extended a big thank you to his fellow bowlers and work mates at the Young Bowling Club for encouraging him to reach his potential.
