A 12 man Under 16 Cherrypickers team got their season back on track with a rare win away from Alfred Oval, defeating Wagga Kangaroos 20-12 at McDonalds Park on Sunday.

Having their first game in three weeks and down on troops the young ‘Pickers were slow off the mark and let Kangaroos get the first points of the match 10 minutes into the game.
Young soon found some rhythm and it was Will Stanley playing in the second row who went over for Young’s first try.
Jonte Powderly converted and levelled up the scores.
Young continued to raid the Roos’ left defense of and Pat Smith, in his first game back from injury, scored Young’s second try. Young led 12-6.
However Kangaroos weren’t about to give up, and with a very important two competition points on the line they levelled up the scores to go into half time 12-all.
The second half was a real arm wrestle with both teams trying to gain dominance.
Strong runs from Stanley, Cannelis and Hall saw Young get the upper hand and start to make inroads into the Roos’ defense.
Young’s next opportunity came through a penalty. Jonte Powderly attempted from 40 metres but was unsuccessful and the scores remained locked.
Young didn’t have to wait long before another penalty was awarded about 25 metres out. Jonte put Young in front 14-12.
Young’s Kye Teidemann had too much power and pace for the Roos’ defence and ran 40 meters to score, taking Young out to 20-12 at full time.
There were some strong performances in the game, and the win means Young holds onto second place on the competition ladder.
Will Stanley was Young’s best and Conner Hall had his best game of the year with some strong runs.
Young will face the Tumut Blues on Sunday at Alfred Oval.
