From the kick off Young played with enthusiasm and ambition, and it wasn’t long before flyhalf Luke Doldissen dodged and weaved his way through the opposition’s defence to score a great solo try.
Hard work and constant pressure from Young’s much smaller forward pack resulted in a loose ball, swooped on by Lane Gaudie.
A quick pass to James McCevoy resulted in try number two.
A rampant Royals forward pack scored a well earned try, before Young’s Riley Turner crossed the line to further add to Young’s tally.
As the second half progressed Young’s backs ran riot with Ross Everdell slicing through the Royals’ defence to score two tries before a neat draw-and-pass move saw him put Connor Mcgregor into the open and complete Young’s last score of the afternoon.
Trying hard until the end Royals added to their score on the final whistle with a converted try.
It was a fantastic effort by every member of the team. Every try is the result of 15 players playing with conviction, and this was certainly appreciated by the watching spectators and coach.
Next Saturday Young travel to the ACT to take on Daramalen College in their quest to make the playoffs.
Under 16s’ last shot at finals
The Under 16 Yabbies had a tough day at the office on Saturday, going down 17-40 to Canberra Grammar School in Canberra.
Unavailability of several players meant the Yabbies had no reserves. That combined with several injuries throughout the day meant parts of the game were played with only 13 players.
The first 20 minutes were very even with the Yabbies keen to secure a win to guarantee a place in the finals, but the injury toll was too much against a full Grammar contingent.
In an opening half of exceptional running rugby the Yabbies went to the break down 10-19 after tries to Nick Stephens and Iggy Bonsembiante.
The second half was much harder with the Yabbies forced to defend their line for most of the half.
The loss means that the Yabbies must beat Daramalan for a place in the finals.
The 16s play the only local rugby fixture this coming weekend at Cranfield Oval against Marist College First 15.
Why not travel down and support the boys. Kick off 11am.
