The meeting has been held midweek and on Sundays in recent years but the move to a Saturday should ensure a big crowd.

Clarence River Jockey Club chief executive Michael Beattie is helping the club run its cup meeting after it recently parted ways with its secretary.

"The meeting has struggled on Sunday against the local footy in the past couple of years," Beattie said. "Being on Saturday it should help the crowd and it should be a good day."

The Casino Cup is the start of a run on cup meetings on the Northern Rivers, with Ballina and Lismore to follow in the next month.

Coolcat over problems

Braidwood trainer Richard Clarke is hoping the bad luck is behind Coolcat Dancer.

The small son of Tale Of The Cat has suffered from muscle problems through his career and was actually tried as a polo-cross horse. He has also had to have two gelding operations after a testicle was left in the first operation.

"He'd always shown a bit of ability but we couldn't work out why we couldn't get it out of him on race day," Clarke said. "We just couldn't get him right with the muscle problems. I changed his feed around but I think it has just taken time and maturity to get him right."

Coolcat Dancer broke through for his maiden win at Moruya last month and will look to back-up when he steps up to 1200m at the Sapphire Coast on Sunday.

"The way he won last start, when he came from an outside barrier and cruised in front, suggests he won't have a problem with the 1200 metres," Clarke added. "His work's been good and we've got our fingers crossed. This Sunday should tell the story with him."

Tamworth closure

The Tamworth racetrack has been closed for refurbishment for the next month, meaning two meetings have had to be transferred. The meeting on August 31 will be held at Armidale, while the September 15 meeting will be at Scone.
