The Melbourne Renegades have seen enough from James Pattinson in his two seasons with them to secure him to a long-term deal - even though Australian duties could limit him to only cameos.

Over the past two seasons the fast-bowler has played nine matches for the Renegades and taken 15 wickets at 17.33. Even more impressive has been his strike rate, taking a wicket every 13 balls - which, for a new-ball bowler, is pivotal.
Last season's Big Bash League fitted fortuitously into Pattinson's rehabilitation schedule from injury. The break from Sheffield Shield, which the now 25-year-old was being primed for, meant he was given permission to play five matches for the Renegades, in which he dazzled with his pace and early breakthroughs and won their player of the season award.
Renegades chief executive Stuart Coventry said Pattinson, whose older brother Darren also played for them before his retirement, was a "big fan favourite with our supporters who love seeing him steam in and bowl quick at Etihad Stadium".
Pattinson's new contract will extend his stay with the Renegades until at least the end of the 2017-18 season.
The right-armer, who last week was recalled to Australia's limited-overs squad for the looming series in England and Ireland, said he relished being able to extend his stay at a team which will this season boast Chris Gayle alongside Aaron Finch at the top of their batting order.
"We have a good squad together with my Victorian teammate Cameron White also joining so we will definitely be looking at a finals position," he said.
"From a personal point of view, I can't wait to bowl alongside 'Sidds' (Peter Siddle), (Dwayne) Bravo, 'Rimmo' (Nate Rimmington), Nick Winter and 'X' (Xavier Doherty)."
