First of the local wins came in race four when young driver Jason Grimson drove a copybook race to collect the $8 on offer for the Kevin and Vickie Powderly-owned seven-year-old Life Sign gelding Riverina Life.
Racing midfield for the majority of the 2040 metre event, the run home in the straight was sufficient to convincingly defeat the more favoured Karloo Quade and Hi Rollin Joker.
The mile rating of 2.03.8 minutes was another creditable performance for the 2040 metre journey, Riverina Life missing only one placing in his last 11 starts since joining the Powderly stable.
The second local winner appeared in race six when the Katie Jenner-trained Ned Pepper ($1.80) returned to the winner’s circle following an unplaced run at Young last Wednesday.
Unfortunately at Young, the race was run in terrible conditions and after being beaten for early speed Ned was caught inside the leaders and was not suited by the run of the race.
A totally different story at Parkes with driver and birthday girl Angela Hedges giving the Dawn Of A New Day four-year-old plenty of time to settle from gate six allowing the favourite and polemarker Our Priddy Maid to set the pace early.
Going to the lead at the two lap mark, the winner now of three races from only six starts set a good solid pace throughout and recorded a mile rate of 2.01.5 min and a convincing winning margin of 10.6 metres.
The third winner on the day was in the final race of the Parkes season when the Luke Micallef-owned Real Armbro ($12.10) finished strongly to defeat the more fancied Leonardos Son in an exciting finish.
Previously raced in Queensland for the Cordina family, the Real Desire six-year-old gelding won his 10th race from 72 starts for the Micallef family, a nice result for the Monteagle team who also won at Young on Wednesday night with Our Big Mumma.
Friday night at Bathurst proved to be a happy hunting ground for trainer Josh Powderly and Jason Grimson.
The trip to the mountain proved successful with the three-year-old.
With only a little over two weeks before the end of the 2014/2015 racing season, these wins are great fodder for those still continuing to race at times that are sometimes not ideal as far as the weather is concerned.
The Young Harness Racing Club race again on Wednesday, August 26 before taking a six week break.
The club will be holding their annual general meeting on the Tuesday night prior, August 25, at the Empire Hotel commencing at 7pm.
One important issue on the agenda is the presentation of a new constitution for the club.
The constitution has been virtually unchanged for many years and, with new rules and regulations coming into force, it was deemed that new rulings need to be introduced and original rulings require updating.
