Team manager Chris Dennis said CBR was set up to replace Suzuki Trek in the National Road Series after Suzuki withdrew their funding.

They will make their NRS debut in the Tour of the King Valley, which starts in northern Victoria on Friday.

Former professional cyclist Jessie MacLean is the sport director of the team, which is made up of Belinda Chamberlain, Laura Darlington, Iona Halliday, Allison Rice, Alex Nicholls and Chloe McIntosh.

Dennis will look to Canberra's wealth of cycling riches to help him do that by calling on the likes of emerging superstar Michael Matthews, three-time world champion Mick Rogers and two-time Australian champ Gracie Elvin.

"There's a massive elite rider alumni that are all Canberra people riding in the Tour de France or the female equivalents so the team will have a link to them as well," he said.

"[We] will have a couple of events over summer when all those international riders are back where the kids can come and meet them and go for rides with them.

"You don't get to play touch footy with [ACT Brumbies] Steve Moore and Matt Toomua, but cycling you do actually get to hang out with those super elites."

Apart from the racing, Dennis said CBR would also look to help transition junior female cyclists to the senior ranks.

He spoke to Canberra's cycling clubs and doing more to retain young riders was an area they wanted looked at.

"We're going to be heavy on youth development - 'A' getting little girls in, but also there's a gap at the moment for when girls go from juniors to seniors - it's a massive leap," Dennis said.

"There's not much to help them get there. We've had a chat to a few clubs around town and they're keen to us to focus on that, so we'll be putting a bit of effort into that."

Canberra's world champion, Rebecca Wiasak, will defend her King Valley title with her High5 team.
