With two pools totalling 10 teams, the competition was fierce, with teams coming from as far away as Canberra to do battle.
Young got off to a good start with a 4-nil win over the Cowra Eagles. Goals went to Benny Knapman and a wonderful goal by Billy Brown as he curled one in from a corner kick.
The boys were off in their next game against the Monaro Panthers conceding a very early goal and constantly on the back foot with some great defence by Sean Hughes and Riley Butcher repelling many goals.
Young pressed hard, looking for a goal and were rewarded when Benny Knapman scored another to equalize the game which concluded 1-1.
Young won their next game 5-nil against Young’s Tys Snack Shack team with some great attacking play by Oscar Taylor and Riley Butcher and some excellent finishing by Nicholas Vu.
Young were in for a real battle when they played the undefeated Parkes Victory team - they had to win or they were going home early. This match was played at a frantic pace with both teams showing their skills.
Although Young had the majority of field possession but needed to score.
Oscar Taylor was fantastic in goals and it was Hunter Wells who proved the difference as he kept fighting for the ball and not giving up as he put pressure on the Parkes defence.
His hard work paid off when he got a deflection from a Parkes player that rolled into the back of the net to win us the game.
Billy Brown was tremendous in the backs, not letting anything past and he was very well-supported again by Sean Hughes.
The grand final was against the Cowra Falcons and, although Young were playing the better soccer, they found themselves down 1-nil again as Cowra scored against the run of play.
Young regrouped well and, with a positive attitude and good structure, Hunter Wells found Nicholas Vu who calmly put it in the back of the net to equalise.
Cowra found themselves in deeper trouble when the ever-present Josh Cameron slammed one in the top left corner to give Young a 2-1 lead at half time.
Young came out firing in the second half and, although tired, kept running on adrenalin and the thought of being champions playing some great soccer as they come home the stronger team.
Josh Cameron sealed the victory with his second goal of the grand final to give Young victory.
A tremendous effort by all players who are to be congratulated on the way they represented their town.
Well done boys, great effort!
