As organisers prepare to head to Southern NSW, the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) has just announced Martin will be part of the crew on this leg of the tour.
Martin, who called races for 36 years in Australia and remains an active member of the industry, will join the tour in Young on Wednesday, September 2 where locals are invited to take photos with the $175,000, 18-carat gold Cup at the Empire Hotel.
As part of the tour, students of St Mary’s Primary School, Hennessy Catholic College and Young Public School, as well as residents of the Southern Cross Care Retirement Village, will be treated to a visit at their respective venues.
All this will take place before the Cup is displayed at a community meet and greet at Nowra’s Jelly Bean Park on the Friday, followed by a luncheon in Nowra attended by local Members of Parliament.
The Cup will then travel to Goulburn on Sunday, September 6, where Goulburn mayor, Councillor Geoff Kettle, will welcome the Cup with Goulburn and Mulwaree residents at Belmore Park.
Over his illustrious career, Martin called over 20 Melbourne Cups, including Makybe Diva’s three consecutive wins in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
He was awarded the Australian Sports Medal for services to the Horse Racing Industry by the Federal Government in 2000.
VRC Chief Executive Simon Love said that Martin was a fitting addition to the NSW leg of the tour.
“Bryan is one of Australia’s most popular and well respected race callers, announcing countless important moments in Australian racing history, including calling his own horse Fields of Omagh across the line to win in 2003 and 2006,” Love said.
“Bryan is a true legend of the industry and we’re delighted that he will be visiting Young, Shoalhaven, Goulburn and Mulwaree communities to share the fascinating experiences he has gained throughout his career, both here and internationally.”
The Cup started its annual tour in July and will travel to 33 towns and cities across Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia.
It will return to Melbourne on Monday, October 26 before the running of the 155th Emirates Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday in November.
