As they’ve done in previous years the Bears designated Round 18 to be their annual charity day, incorporating it with their sponsors day. Both grades wore blue kits in support of MND Australia.
Burrangong’s league tag team made a great start to the day after drawing 4-all with Trundle in what has been described as their best defensive game of the season.
Hannah Hetherington scored the only try for the Bears.
Then it was time for junior spectators to try their luck on the field when the club held a friendly match for the kids.
First Grade were next to take to the field against third-placed Trundle in what was guaranteed to be a tough match.
Matt Dwyer was first to cross the line for Burrangong, followed by a late try by Brett Campbell in second half.
Despite a 36-12 loss, club member Zorb Campbell said the boys “didn’t do too bad.”
“They defended well, they just had a few 10 minute lapses like they normally do and let in about four tries in 20 minutes, but apart from that they didn’t do too bad,” he said.
Campbell labelled it as a very successful day, and thanked the major and minor sponsors for their support.
“We hope they had a good day and would like to see them all there again next year,” he said.
