Yabbies Women's seven-a-side in their first season for many years had a 40-5 loss against a well established and experienced Temora side.
The re-introduction of women's rugby after a long absence has been a real success, adding a really positive influence to the culture of the club.
Team coach Mick Stallard said he was really happy with the way the girls built numbers and confidence as the year progressed, and can see a really bright future for women's rugby in Young.
"Although this loss puts the girls out of the 2015 competition, we have learnt so much and look forward to 2016 and encourage anyone out there who has interest to be in touch early next year to get involved,” he said.
Young's Second Grade side went down in a close encounter against a First Grade stacked Cootamundra side, which unfortunately puts Young's last years Second Grade Premiership winning side out of the competition.
Second Grade captain-coach Mick Hudson thanked all of his players for their commitment this year in what was a tough, yet still rewarding season and encouraged his troupes to get right behind our First Grade side for the remainder of the season.
Young's First Grade side then took on Wagga City in another close game, however again Young ended up on the wrong side of the scorecard.
Both teams scored two tries, but a penalty count against Young proved the difference in the 14-28 defeat.
Co-coach's James Shannon and Aaron Seaman weren't too disappointed with the outcome.
"Put simply we need to tighten up our discipline, continue to win the set piece and we are a real chance in this years competition,” Shannon said.
Young's First Grade side now turns its full attention towards this coming Saturdays elimination qualifying final against Temora in Wagga, which will be a tough match.
"We have beaten Temora twice this year, so have confidence going into the game and need to turn up on the day to ensure we are still in the hunt in coming weeks,” Shannon said.
Yabbies hosts week three of the finals in Young on September 5, so for any supporters keen to cheer on the club, please make your way down to Conolly Park in Wagga this Saturday at 2pm to make sure First Grade is still in contention on the fifth.
