The state of Quamby SS Road, located 13 kiometres north east of Young, following more than 40 millimetres of rain last week had one resident describing it as best suited for four-wheel drives only.

“If I didn’t have a four-wheel drive I don’t know how I’d get along it,” said the woman, who spoke to The Young Witness on the condition of anonymity.
She travels up and down the dirt road a couple of times everyday for work and to pick her children up from the school bus stop, two and a half kilometres away.
She thought the road was so bad last week she urged The Witness to take a photo of it.
“It’s just terrible, the road is lower than the sides,” she said.
“Parents need to travel on it to drop off or pick up their children at the bus stop.”
She also said families weren’t the only ones to use the road, adding that farm machinery played a part in its usage.
The resident has lived in the area for 10 years and said it’s lucky to be maintained once a year.
“It just needs to be built-up and needs more gravel,” she said.
“I was driving along thinking - this is just ridiculous.”
The woman has every intention of writing to council regarding the road’s condition, saying she’s already done it twice in the past.
