With over 500 participants last year, the group has an ambitious aim of attracting 1000 entrants to the 2015 Cherry Chase.
Youth Council mayor Isaac Northcott is excited about this year’s event and, at the official launch night in early August, he praised the efforts of the Youth Council on their energy and enthusiasm to make this year’s event bigger and better.
“The Youth Council members have all been working hard, generating ideas and initiatives to make the fun run a special event for the whole region,” Isaac said.
The launch night provided organisers with the opportunity to meet the sponsors who have jumped on board in support of the day.
“Without the support of local businesses it would not be possible for us to organise such a large community event,” Isaac said.
“This year, we have the Young Services Club 10km, the Ingram Shearing 5km and the Maccas team challenges,” he said.
“There will be prizemoney for winners as well as prizes for largest teams, fastest teams and best dressed participants.”
Organisers extended their appreciation to sponsors Ingram Shearing, Young Services Club, Maccas Young, NSW Government, Young Shire Council, The Young Witness, Roccy FM/2LF, Curves Young, FTS Financial Planning, M and M’s Music Studio, McDonald Signs, Valley Fresh Orchards, MA Steel, O’Reilly’s Printing and Stationary, Rotary, Young Workwear, Young High School, Young Townhall Newsagency, Young PCYC and Grove Estate Wines who have thrown their support behind the event.
The 2015 Cherry Chase will be held on Sunday, November 15, and it’s anticipated it will, again, be fully patronisedt.
Organisers are urging the community to get in early to register.
The website is officially live and people are encouraged to register online at www.cherrychase.com.au
For anyone unable to register online the Youth Council will be holding manual registration days in Young’s CBD in coming months.
Registrations are $10 for under 18s and $15 for anyone over 18.
Registration includes a timed running bib, entertainment, runners prizes and sausage sandwich at the conclusion of your run.
This year’s Cherry Chase will be raising funds to go towards purchasing outdoor fitness equipment for Young’s community.
Young Shire Council’s deputy mayor Ben Cooper is helping the Youth Council organise the event and urges people to get behind the Cherry Chase Fun Run.
“You can’t beat an event that encourages physical activity while raising funds to go towards our community,” he said.
“Whether you sprint, run, walk or crawl we would love to see Young residents come out and be a part of this fun, family-friendly and community-spirited day.
“Our motto is to run, cheer or volunteer and there are opportunities for everyone to get into the spirit of this event and show off the kind of events Young can host.
“Please mark Sunday November 15 in your diaries and invite some friends to town to take part in the Cherry Chase.”
With many participants indicating they will return again this year, the event is assured to grow.
Registrations are now open online at www.cherrychase.com.au .
