The contributions of local individuals and organisations to the town have again been highlighted by Young Shire Council as part of its community recognition program - among them some literary luminaries.

Councillor Brian Mullany suggested long-time bookstore owners Tim and Lyle Gilbert be congratulated for the family continuing to operate Gilbert’s Bookstore in the one location at 100 Boorowa Street for over 100 years.
And local author Valerie Parv is also to receive congratulations from the council for her recent recognition in the Queens Birthday Honours for 2015. This recommendation was put up by Cr Sandy Freudenstein.
And, Young Greyhound Committee are also to be congratulated for their outstanding work in contributing to the building of the new canteen and their continuation of Greyhound Racing in Young, again on the motion of councillors Mullany and Miller.
At council’s August meeting Cr Mullany congratulated Malcolm Ward for his efforts in soccer, having been selected for the Australian Joeys team to compete in the FIFA U17 World Cup.
Cr Cooper suggested the Young Rotary Club be recognised for their Heritage Walk initiative. The club recently launched a booklet that details the history of various numbered sites around town.
Local league captain coach Luke Branaghin was also singled out by Cr Cooper for his excellent leadership and support of Young Rugby League’s community for the past four years as were the organisers of this year’s school dance showcase - the Cherry Jam - particularly Nyree Job for her long-time support of community events through prividing musicals.
