According to local Aboriginal elder Enid Clarke, who reported this at the Aboriginal Liaison Committee meeting, this will be the first corroboree held on Wiradjuri country since the late 1800s.
A barbeque promoting the relationship between Young Shire Council and the local Aboriginal community has been planned to take place on October 14.
Councillors and members of the Young Local Aboriginal Land Council board will attend the barbecue, to be held at the Chinese Tribute Gardens.
Councillor Tony Wallace has asked Young Shire Council to make representations to Riverina Local Land Services seeking to limit stock from outside the shire grazing on council land reserve due to drainage issues being caused.
Council’s operations director Dirk Wymer said some of the shire’s stock routes were narrow and running mobs of cattle through them were not only affecting road formation but gave cause to environmental concerns - around endangered ecological communities.
“It may be that it’s inappropriate to have the number of stock on some of the shire’s reserves,” he said.
“We’ll meet with LLS and nut out a strategy.”
AROUND 350 people have registered for Young Food Hall with an average 50 people a week accessing the service, according to a Young Healthy Shire report tabled at the recent meeting of Young Shire Council.
