Young felt the full force of a much larger Singleton side on Wednesday, September 2 in a 34-14 loss.
Despite Young starting well, it was Singleton who crossed the line first.
They slammed another three tries on Young to take the score to 26-nil come half time.
Coach Garry Lucas said the 20 degree weather left the Young boys struggling.
In efforts to redeem themselves Young came out firing in the second half.
Steven Anderson, Josh Baker and Will Hills crossed the line for Young, and in the meantime the side restricted Singleton to two tries.
“The boys stepped up and realised the other team was no better than us, just we let them get away to a better start,” he said.
According to Lucas the three try-scorers were standouts on the day, but praised the whole team for their efforts.
“Overall it was, for the amount of training they do, a great effort for the boys,” he said.
“Singleton’s coach came over to us after the game and said it was a great effort to get this far.
“He had the luxury of picking from over 500 kids where as we only have about 110, it was a huge effort to put tries on these guys.”
The side wishes to thank teachers Ross Laker and Tim Minehan, and all parents for their time and travelling.
Despite the loss Young can be proud in knowing they finished top four in the state.
