Riding past the stunning canola-filled paddocks and the historic Iandra castle were families, the seriously fit lycra clad crew, tiny children and the odd penny farthing!
Visitors from Cowra, Young, Grenfell, Bathurst, Sydney, Parkes, Canberra and beyond enjoyed the spectacular scenery and Greenethorpe’s hospitality.
For the first time, after seven years of trying, Greenethorpe’s William Hodges crossed the home line ahead of Cowra’s Jeremey Ryan, both who consistently set the pace for the pack.
Former local Belinda Diprose of Sydney returned to her home turf to challenge the guys and was the first female home.
A highlight of the morning was the arrival of two penny farthings and a Coventry rotary tricycle.
John and Ivy Kitchen of Bathurst and Jeff MC Clurg of Parkes wowed the crowd with their fantastic replica wheels.
John completed the five kilometre ride in top hat and tails on the Coventry rotary tricycle which he built himself.
Jeff took on the big ride of 42 kilometres on his penny farthing which included the four kilometre climb up Gambarra Road.
Rob Webster of Cowra was among the few lucky and game locals who enjoyed the opportunity to try to ride John’s Penny Farthing. Apparently it’s not as easy as it looks.
Not to be upstaged, was the youngest rider three-year-old Zac Ziser who did some laps of the village on his plastic tricycle.
The community garage sale, jumping castle, French-themed patisserie, barbecue lunch and fresh coffee kept the non-riders very happy as well.
All the money raised will go toward the upkeep of the Greenethorpe Soldiers Memorial Hall.
The Greenethorpe Soldiers Memorial Hall Community and community would like to extend a big thank you to the local businesses and sponsors who help make the event such a success: Aldi Cowra, Allan Gray & Co, Aldi Cowra, Bargwanna & Gerrard, Beecher Wool, Brundanella Merinos, Carruthers Young, CBA Young, Cowra Shire, Cowra Motorcycles, CJ Andersen Grenfell, Delta Ag Young, Donges IGA, Elders Cowra, Emms Mooney, Felix Rams, Geronimo, Gibson’s Accounting, Grain Focus, Grenfell Commodities, Grenfell Contractors, Hucheon & Pearce Cowra, Lachlan Fertilisers Grenfell, John Davidson Spreading, James P Keady, Lachlan Steel, Landmark Young, Lowes Petroleum, LPC Trading, McColl Farms, Mitton’s Earthmoving, Moppity Vineyards, Morgan Chamberlain Insurance, Rocklyn Merinos, Shamrock Hotel Greenethorpe, South West Tractors, Thompsons Irrifab, Tyrrells Wines, Tyrepower Young, and Weddin Shire.
