All measures have been taken to ensure the Young Aquatic Centre will re-open for business this long weekend - as it does every year - without a hitch.
And it appears the pool’s opening couldn’t come soon enough with the facility’s manager Paul ‘Vince’ Vitnell saying he’s had people “at him” for the last two weeks asking when the pool was due to open.
“Even the boys at the skate park, they ran over when they saw me come in to the pool and asked when it was opening,” he said.
“People were wanting to come in early for a swim!”
Vince has spent the last few weeks preparing the pool and the grounds for tomorrow’s opening.
He’s scrubbed the deck and the pool, cleaned the grounds and amenities, and has washed everything.
“I’ve raised the water quality so it’s spot on, the water has come up crystal and I’ve raised the water temperature to be nearly 25-26 degrees on the weekend,” Vince said.
He’s also mowed the grass and stocked the kiosk with drinks and hot chips.
“They love their hot chips,” Vince said.
He also said the ducks made themselves quite at home around the water during the off season.
Which meant they left plenty of mess behind.
“And they’ve been back last night the buggers!” He said.
But despite the challenges, Vince is looking forward to being back on deck for his fourth season as manager and life guard.
“I’ve had enough of a break, I’m ready to get back into it,” he said.
“I’m sick of doing house duties,” he laughed.
The first weekend of the season usually attracts a good crowd, with plenty of swimmers coming down to secure their season passes.
Vince expects this weekend’s rush will be no different to previous years.
The pool will be open from tomorrow at 10am until 6pm.
The facility will be open 6am to 8am Monday to Friday and daily from 10am-6pm throughout the season.
