For Young Pool manager, Paul Vitnell, the unseasonably warmer weather saw strong numbers and big turnouts at the local pool throughout the long weekend.
“It's been a big start to the season with good crowds throughout the long weekend,” Paul said.
“It's been a warmer start to the season than usual and the numbers are up considerably on last year.
“The temps are only going to get warmer so we encourage everyone from regulars to newcomers to come down and relax,” he said.
The mean temperature for the weekend was a staggering 26.3 which is unusual for this time of the year and the warm weather according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) is here to stay.
Temperatures reached 27.1 degrees on Saturday and, as forcast, 30.7 on Sunday.
But the mercury peaked on Monday at 31.7 and 33 degrees yesterday.
Temperatures are expected to hover between 24 and 29 degrees for the rest of the week.
“October is cool normally but not this year,” Paul said.
“It's the unseasonably warm temps that are getting families out and about and looking for places to cool down.
“We also encourage everyone to stay safe in the sun and the pool and take care,” he said.
“Especially given that this summer is expected to be very hot and more people will be at the pool.”
With the weekend opening there will also be a resumption of normal activities.
Young Swimming Club training also started this week and will be held from Tuesdays to Thursdays including morning, afternoon and evening sessions with Friday nights again staged for swim meets from Friday, October 16.
There is also Learn to Swim sessions for little kids from October 19 and all those interested with young children are encouraged to come along and get involved.
“We are really looking forward to the summer swimming season and hope to see you down at the pool. Please stay safe this summer!” Paul said.
