The talented and accomplished performing duo have hit the road and are heading to Young in their quest to raise as much money and awareness as they can for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
They’ve been described as a cross between Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Thelma and Louise with their “plummeting cleavages”.
And they’ll be arriving in their hot pink bus they call their “boobie bus” to present their free two-hour show “Busted Out” at the Koorawatha Hotel tomorrow at 7.30pm.
The girls call themselves the “self-proclaimed sex symbols from North Arm Nursing Home for the blind”, and while that’s a little far from the truth, they do guarantee some good-old fashion entertainment, laughter, music, theatrics, and plenty of tongue-in-cheek humour.
It’s all done while conveying that simple yet powerful message to as many women and men as they can, to know your body, check your boobies, and early detections wins.
“Breast Cancer is no longer a disease that affects only women 50 years and over, women and men of all ages are affected by the disease,” AJ Muriel said.
“In our travels the youngest woman we have met diagnosed with breast cancer was 18 years old, the oldest woman diagnosed with breast cancer was 86 years old.
“We have met men diagnosed with breast cancer. Men do get breast cancer. Breast cancer or cancer does not discriminate.”
AJ (Awesome Jugs) Muriel is the singer, songwriter and musician of the duo, and has a natural flair for making people laugh.
Mavis is said to have been born a show-off and has a flair for herself and her alter ego.
The girls play everything from country to rock, to mainstream, plus a few of AJ Muriel’s original works.
Most of the money they raise at their shows go to the Breast Cancer Foundation, with a small percentage covering their travelling and general costs to spread their message.
But AJ Muriel said there was no obligation to donate.
“However all donations are accepted with thanks and appreciation,” she said.
The girls have been taking on Australia since July 2012 and their “Busted Out” show has been seen in over 200 towns in Australia to date.
