Everybody is there to support, get involved and see all the swimmers reach their potential.
One of these very encouraging and enthusiastic people is Tami Stuart, another of Young swimming club’s coaches.
Whatever time of day, Tami has a smile on and is ready to help and give her time to parents and children alike.
It really is quite simple, Tami loves to swim and she herself has very fond memories of being involved with the Young Swimming Club.
Swimming is something that Tami is very passionate about for many different reasons.
“It’s a sport that may one day save your life, we are teaching a life skill that can be utilised for health and fitness well into old age, without too much strain on the body,” she said.
Tami said you don’t have to be the best or the fastest to reap the health benefits.
“It’s fun for families and people of all ages and our Friday night comp is a very social and pleasant way to see out the summer,” she said.
Tami is a part-time coach, although she would love to spend more time at the pool.
As a nurse it is tricky juggling shift work and coaching at the same time. If it was feasible she would take leave for the whole of summer and teach swimming – but she’s not sure how her boss would like that!
During winter Tami spends time riding her bike and walking.
She was involved in the Cycle for Life ride from Dubbo to Young, which was conducted over three days. It was to raise money for Camp Quality.
She said it was a challenging experience, but rewarding when completed and a great way to share some special time with other like minded people.
Tami is inspired by the story of Cate and Bronte Campbell and the close connection that they have with each other and their family, but her favourite swimmer is Ian Thorpe after seeing him swim at the Manchester Commonwealth Games, she likes what he has done for swimming in Australia.
Freestyle is Tami’s favourite stroke to swim, but butterfly is a stroke that she enjoys to watch when it is done properly.
“I have swum in many different pools all around the world and still say the Young swimming pool is my favourite,” she said.
The Pockley and Silk families are on the barbecue this Friday night.
