Wednesday evening was a big night at the Remembrance meeting of Lodge Young Burrangong with 42 masons and visitors attending.

After the normal business was conducted visitors were invited into the lodge room.
They were welcomed by the Worshipful Master Very Worshipful Brother Rob Nash, which was followed by a most interesting address by the president of the local sub-branch of the RSL – Cr John Walker.
After brief discussion this was followed by a minute’s silence which ended with the playing of the Last Post by Reid Noyes, an excellent rendition. All then sang Oh God our help in ages past. Right Worshipful Brother Neville Freudentsein recited The Ode.
Late last year the lodge was asked to raffle over some leftover wood by the two antique engine clubs in Young, that is the Young and District Antique Engine and Tractor Club and the Cherry Capital Collectors Club.
There was enough wood for four good trailer loads. Proceeds were to be shared between those clubs, the masons and charities.
The lodge asked the local representative of CanAssist, the Young District Hospital Auxiliary and the Mercy Care Auxiliary if they would like to participate.
A series of raffle selling days were held in IGA courtesy of Robert Donges. People from those groups joined with the local masons to sell tickets, a most successful arrangement.
The magnificent sum of $6085 was raised.
Those three groups were eligible to receive a one for one top up from Masonicare – the charity arm of the United Grand Lodge of NSW and ACT.
There was some carry over funds from last year for the District Hospital Auxiliary which explains why they receive a bigger amount than the other two.
Cheques were presented to Gail Smith from the District Hospital Auxiliary for $4500 and Joyce Cavanagh from the Mercy Care Auxiliary for $2750.
Gail Hannigan from CanAssist accepted $2750.
Mercy Care said their cheque will go towards buying a bladder scan which cost around $10,000, the hospital auxiliary are going to use their cheque towards purchasing a smart board, while CanAssist will use their cheque to help provide ongoing relief for cancer patients.
On October 17 the lodge, with the local scouts and guides, ran a very successful spring fair in the lodge grounds in Blackett Avenue.
A number of people ran their own stalls which helped swell the proceeds.
They brought in over $1900. The lodge topped this up to $2000.
Cheques for $1000 each were presented to Kiralee Ciccarelli for the Guides while Toni Holmes accepted the cheque for the Scouts.
Cheques for $912 were also presented to Lee Matthews for the Young and District Antique Engine Club and to Kim Davidson for the Cherry Collectors Club.
The District Grand Inspector of Workings, Very Worshipful Brother Doug Sewell said that this lodge was setting a great example by its support of the local community.
