One of the wonderful things about sport is that it is a great way to meet new people and share a broader range of experiences outside of our everyday routine.

It is always interesting to find out how people became involved in a particular sport and what they like about it.
The Crawford family, which consists of Hugh and Felicity and their two daughters Charlotte and Olivia, joined the Young Swimming Club in the 2012-2013 season.
Charlotte was seven and Olivia was five years; they are now 10 and eight.
The Crawfords enjoy the family atmosphere of the club - so much so that their involvement has led to Felicity being elected to club president.
“We have met and befriended many families through swimming we may never have met otherwise,” she said.
“Friday nights are a great opportunity to get together with everyone and we can catch up over the stopwatches.”
The Crawfords also enjoy the non-competitive nature of the club, as each week the swimmers are encouraged to improve on their best times. They are not racing each other, but rather themselves.
Felicity also believes the training program and coaches the club have are very impressive for a country swimming club.
“And we enjoy seeing our girls develop their skills in all four strokes, as well as learning the discipline it takes to attend training at least twice a week.”
The Crawford girls found the winter swimming program very good as it helped them maintain their swimming fitness over the cooler months and they both find it fun and something that they can enjoy with their friends. Felicity’s favourite stroke is freestyle.
Ian Thorpe is her favourite swimmer but she also has a soft spot for Susie O’Neill and now appreciates how effortless she made butterfly look. Charlotte likes freestyle and breaststroke and Olivia freestyle and backstroke.
Good Wombat rainwater is the Crawford’s energy drink of choice. Olivia enjoys a performance-enhancing bacon and egg roll (hold the egg) at carnivals, while Charlotte prefers a lighter meal consisting of yoghurt and muesli.
The Cobcroft and Baldwin families are on the barbecue this Friday night.
