Organiser Ben Cooper is excited with the community support that has been offered for this event.
‘Registrations are flowing in from everywhere. We are quickly heading towards 500 participants which is an outstanding result’.
The Cherry Chase has truly become a regional event with organisers impressed with the huge number of participants coming from surrounding towns.
The Youth Council who have put many hours into ensuring the event is a success, are putting finishing touches to the course to ensure it is race ready for Sunday.
‘We are so excited to be hosting the Cherry Chase and hope everyone has a good time’ the Youth Council Mayor Isaac Northcott also stressed that the event was for the whole community.
‘We are encouraging people to get in and have a go, whether you run or walk you will be doing your bit to support your community.’
All participants will receive a finisher’s medal and will be able to refuel with a sausage sandwich at the end of their run or walk.
Runners and walkers will be provided with a bib and timing chip that will provide an accurate time of their event.
A new initiative this year will be entertainment on course to keep participants motivated or to possibly take their minds off the hills.
Liz Kidd, who organised the entertainers, was all praise for their community spirit.
“The willingness of local people to jump on board and give up their time for others is extremely commendable,” she said.
“Make sure you give them a clap or cheer as you pass them on the course.”
Events like this cannot happen without business support and organisers thank major sponsors Ingram Shearing, Young Services Club, South West Slopes Credit Union and Young Maccas.
They would also like to thank Curves Young for their support and for organising the warm up before the race.
Aaron McDonald from McDonald Signs has helped the group with their banners and course signs while Michael Croke from M and Ms is helping with the sound systems.
FTS Financial Planning , The Young Witness, ROCCY FM, MA Steel, Valley Fresh Orchards, Young Rotary, Young Lions, O’Reilly’s Printing and Stationary, Young Workwear, Grove Estate Wines, Young Town Hall Newsagency, Young High School and Henessey Catholic College are thanked for their support.
It is not too late to enter this year’s Cherry Chase.
