One school from each state was selected to lay poppies on the Stone of Remembrance during the ceremony, with Young High representing NSW.
In total, 102 poppies were laid to represent the 102,000 names of fallen Australian soldiers on the Roll of Honour.
Young High’s principal Keith Duran said his students displayed inspiring respect and honour and are recognised for their understanding of the importance of commemoration now and into the future.
“To be selected as the only school to represent NSW during the centenary commemoration events was an amazing once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our students,” he said.
“To represent our school, our town and NSW was a great honour.
“As always our students were fantastic - I was very proud of every student and felt privileged to be a part of this special occassion with them.”
Keith extended a special thank you to Ms Vanessa Beckett who was the driving force behind this opportunity.
“Without her committment and passion to give our students this experience such an amazing opportunity would not have been possible,” he said.
