Namibian cricket is mourning the death of Raymond Van Schoor, who played for the African nation on more than 200 occasions, after he passed away in hospital five days after collapsing during a match.

The 25-year-old, who first played for Namibia as a teenaged batsman/wicket-keeper, collapsed after he complained of dizziness and asked for water during a one-dayer against South African side Orange Free-State.

"He took a sip or two and the next moment he stumbled over. I caught him in my arms," said teammate Nicolaas Scholtz.

He was rushed to hospital and transferred to the intensive care unit  Scans later revealed Van Schoor suffered a stroke.

"It is with deep regret and sorrow that I announce the passing of Raymond van Schoor," said Cricket Namibia president Richard Frankle.

"He was taken far too early from us. We however accept that Almighty God needed him to represent the heavenly angels! May his soul rest in peace!"

Sandhu going the extra mile

If one-percenters add up to something special Harmon Sandhu, the captain of the NSW Metros team that will play in the under-19 national championships in Adelaide, is on the verge of big things.

His manager, Rev De Silva, revealed Sandhu, the younger brother of NSW player Gurinder, has been getting up at 4.30am to be at the Mundine boxing gym in Redfern to start his tough fitness regimen at 5.30am; he then heads to state training at Moore Park and after that, attends practice for Fairfield-Liverpool.

The teenager, who dismissed national captain Steve Smith in a Sydney grade match last summer, said an important part of his education has been bowling to the NSW senior squad this summer.

"You don't have much room for error when you're bowling to a Steve Smith, a Shane Watson or a Moises Henriques," he said. "It's been a great eye-opener."

Sandhu said while he's worked hard on bowling at the "death" of one-day and Twenty20 matches, he has no intention of following his big brother's lead and unleashing spin, as Gurinder did during the Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania.

The older Sandhu, who has represented Australia as a medium pacer in one-day cricket, said he'd been fine-tuning the off-spin he bowled to Harmon in their backyard Tests.

"I used to bowl a few offies in the backyard, we played on a bit of carpet and the ball would spin, so it came from backyard cricket," he said.

The Barry 'Nugget' Rees Stand

​Australian coach Darren Lehmann is proposing a vote be taken to rename the Riverbank Stand at Adelaide Oval to the Barry 'Nugget' Rees Stand.

Rees is the popular Adelaide identity successive Australian teams have adopted after former Test skipper Barry Jarman brought him to the dressing room, gave him one of his own baggy green caps and his nickname.

Nugget worked in Jarman's famous Adelaide sports shop and is considered an institution in the Australian team's dressing room at Adelaide Oval.

"I know this might raise the eyebrows of the purists who believe these structures should be named after those who have performed great deeds at the highest level, but grandstands are built for the benefit of the public and there is no fan more devoted to his chosen sports than 'Nugget',"  Lehmann blogged on cricket.com.au.

"So I am suggesting a vote to see what the punters, the people who are the heart and soul of sport and who rarely get a say in the naming of these things, think in order to gauge their preferred option for the grandstand's name."
