Cosgrove’s knock catapulted his side to a massive total of 6-330, after entering the crease in the fifth over and departing in the 40th.
Batting at first drop, the destructive right-hander scored over half the Blues’ runs, and combined with Josh Platt for a match-winning 166-run fourth wicket partnership.
“It was very good to watch, he came in at number three got himself in and then went nuts, you could imagine,” Blues batsman Brendan Croese said of Cosgrove’s century.
“170 is a good team total at Alfred Oval let alone by one individual.
“Josh [Platt] got 74, he and Luke [Cosgrove] batted for a considerable time together, Grenfell were depleted with harvest, but we took full advantage and put on quite a large total.”
While Cosgrove and Platt did the majority of the damage, skipper Cameron Jones (20 not out) and opening batsman Jonte Powderly (17) also made handy contributions.
It wasn’t a day for the bowlers with four of the six used by Grenfell’s captain Adrian Milne dispatched for more than 10-runs an over.
Josh Knight (3-71) was the only one to provide multiple scalps.
In reply, the task was always going to be tough and despite the Blues missing a few chances they were able to restrict their opponents to 6-189.
“We dropped about five or six chances, they batted quite well, the Starr boys in particular they took advantage,” Croese said before speaking of his side’s season so far.
“Unfortunately we had one batting collapse against Valleys but they played really well that day.
“So far so good, we seem to be in a better spot than we were last season, we weren’t looking like making the finals.
“Having a full team each week really helps.”
The Blues have the bye this weekend to finish round one before meeting Canowindra again on December 5.
