So much for the heroes. A new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens posted on Facebook shows us a creaky Han Solo, the power of the dark side of the force and it focuses on a new series villain that fans will love to hate, Kylo Ren, getting the better of the series' new heroes.

Ren, who will be played by Girls actor Adam Driver, was revealed in earlier trailers vowing to "finish what you started" as he looks at Darth Vader's melted helmet.

In the latest teaser for the for the new film, which opens on December 17, we see Kylo torturing one of the main characters, X-wing pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac). He also appears to have another main character, Rey (Daisy Ridley) at his mercy. Another, Finn (a stormtropper-turned rebel) advises his audience 'you don't know what I've seen. We all need to run".

An aged Han Solo (Harrison Ford, soon to be attending a fan event in Australia) does no such thing, though, clambering out of the wreckage of a rebel craft to shoot down an approaching stormtrooper.

The new clip shows a huge rally of the forces of the dark side, plus the effects of their weaponry (as an entire sky is turned red), more aerial battles, more of Finn and much more of Kylo Ren's power and authority. Plus we hear the voice of his master, Snoke, to be played by Andy Serkis (who memorably brought Gollum to life in Lord of the Rings).

The apparently endless trailers for the seventh Star Wars film are not pleasing all fans though. One fan, Rob Taylor posted "NO MORE TRAILERS. Please ... I only have so much will power" on the Facebook site.
