This is to recognise the role of the Presentation Sisters in the historical life of the school and gives the school the opportunity to continue on the great work of the Presentation Sisters.
The Presentation Sisters arrived in Young in the 1886 and educated the early settlers of the region and went on to establish St Joseph’s Infants School, St Anne’s Infants School and St Mary’s War Memorial School for Girls over the years that followed.
Their legacy remains at St Mary’s Primary School and at Hennessey Catholic College.
The Prayer Service, that kicked off the day, was a reverent and harmonious celebration.
All classes were involved and their contributions made for a powerful statement about St Mary’s being an inclusive, joyous and spiritual community!
We are the face of change in this world, each of us with our own contribution to making this a better place to be.
This message came through clearly for the students, staff, parents and community present.
It was lovely opportunity to join together to honour our Presentation Sisters and the wonderful work they do throughout the world.
A special thank you to our Patron, Sister Philomena Sewell, who joined us for the morning, and who is our local link with the Presentation Sisters.
All the staff and students were involved in our Mission Day activities, running stalls and games to raise money for our mission project.
The children had so much fun and it was lovely to see our school spirit alive and well!
Archbishop Christopher Prowse, who visited for our Mission Day activities, remarked on the joy that the children experienced through such simple and fun games and activities.
The money raised on Friday will go for the sponsorship of a number of families in the Philippines, at a school run by the Presentation Sisters on the island of Negros.
