Selected students from Kindy and Year 5 and 6 have been behind the project that was recently made possible with a Yates Junior Landcare Creative Gardening Grant.
While it may not look much yet, located next to the retirement village, there are some more creative plans afoot.
“The main idea was to do a washing machine garden, but our goal is to fill up the area with art and craft,” Kindergarten teacher Debbie Knapman said.
This particular day, the students coloured pavers and spread them around the garden.
Debbie said they hope to extend the project to have more students involved in the future through a possible garden club, as well as one day engage members of Young’s Men Shed.
Southern Cross Retirement Village lifestyle and leisure coordinator, Camille Williams, said the project was a great intergenerational activity for the residents.
“Those who are interested, come down and enjoy the children’s company...Gwen Cram comes down on her own,” Camille said.
“They share their knowledge on gardening and plants.”
