The Riverina’s public school students have ranked among the highest achievers in the state for this year’s Higher School Certificate (HSC) results.

Students eagerly awaited the results that could determine the rest of their lives yesterday and were pleasantly surprised at what they found.
Wagga High School’s Christina Perry scored 99 in music and was acknowledged as one of the state’s top achievers.
“It just shows in public schools we have exceptional students too,” Wagga High School principal Mick Powell said.
“Christina is blown away.
“I don’t think she realised how good she was.
“Well, she does now.”
Miss Perry plans to continue her studies in music with a focus on her area of passion, the piano.
Students from Narrandera High School, Temora High School and Riverina Institute of TAFE, Young campus, were also acknowledged as top achievers.
Wagga High School also had 10 students ranked as distinguished achievers (students with one or more band six results) in the subjects of music, mathematics, biology, PD/H/PE, drama, society and culture, ancient history, business studies and senior science.
Other schools in the region with one or more distinguished achievers include Kooringal High School, Mount Austin High School, Leeton High School, Narrandera High School, Temora High School, Tumut High School, Coolamon Central School and Griffith High School.
Mr Powell said a significant number of students had already gained access to university via early entry while others are travelling and working overseas, taking gap years or have jobs or a trade to go to.
