2. BACK TO THE FUTURE (112 minutes) PG
Leave It To Beaver meets Oedipus Rex in Robert Zemeckis' expertly engineered 1985 time travel comedy, with Michael J. Fox as skateboarding teen Marty McFly, who will vanish out of existence if he doesn't reconcile his future parents. The weirdest moments come courtesy of Crispin Glover as Marty's tortured dad. 3.THE TALENTED MR RIPLEY (139 minutes) M
As glossy, old-fashioned entertainment, Anthony Minghella's 1999 adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's famous novel holds up remarkably well. Matt Damon was a cunning choice to play Ripley, an insecure yet ruthless social-climber who finds a new identity on a trip to Italy; the all-star supporting cast includes Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett and Philip Seymour Hoffman. 4.TALES OF BEATRIX POTTER (90 minutes) PG
This wordless 1971 tribute to the great children's author is often enchanting and consistently like nothing else. The director Reginald Mills worked as an editor on the ballet classic The Red Shoes. Peter Rabbit, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle and friends are played by dancers in full-body costumes, and the whole production is marked by an instinctive, very British surrealism. Digitally projected. 5. THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SPONGE OUT OF WATER (92 minutes) PG
The second big-screen outing for TV's favourite animated ocean-dwelling sponge (voiced by Tom Kenny) is a breakneck farce involving robots, time travel, a magic storybook, a pirate played by Antonio Banderas, and a godlike dolphin that watches over the solar system. At core, it's all about food, fighting, and fart jokes, the three essentials of modern family entertainment. Astor, today, 11am. Double bill with The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.
