Cowra must now defeat Parkes next month and will also rely on Forbes beating Young if they wish to advance.
According to Young Junior Cricket secretary Kelly Meddings, Cowra were taken out of their comfort zone when they didn't know the identity of the opening bowler.
“There was a buzz through the Cowra supporters trying to get an identity for him,” she said.
“He was Tom Marshall from the Criterion Scorchers and he finished with 2/21 off his 10 overs.”
Young’s opening batsman Josh Carmody scored a match winning innings of 90 after his side won the toss and elected to bat.
Three wickets fell in the opening session but a revival from Carmody, Luke Cosgrove (26) and skipper Jason Hall (7) put Young in a dominant position heading into the final 16 overs.
With six wickets in the shed the middle order blasted 84 in the last session to set Cowra 196 for victory.
Batting at seven, Ben Allen’s innings of 36 was extremely valuable in setting his side up with a formidable total.
“The bowling was very much a team effort which was great to see and a big shock to Cowra's batsmen with Sam Langford 2/24, Ben Allen 1/16, captain Jason Hall 3/21 and Duncan Cameron 2/42,” Meddings said.
After lunch, Cowra scored freely in the opening session but both of their openers Jonte Powderly (10), Peter Guthrie (30) and first drop batsman Ben Schaefer (3) all departed before drinks when the score was 3-65.
Young took the advantage after the break when Hall removed his opposite number Conor Crook (15) and Brendan Traves (0) moments later.
Zac Starr (35) combined with Sam McNaught (11) and Dave Henderson (11) to form a minor revival but when Starr fell just before the second break Cowra still required 73 with three wickets remaining.
Ben Houghton (15 not out) dug in but the three wickets fell around him as Cowra were all out for 148 in the 42nd over.
Hall (3-21), was a standout for his side with the ball.
“Hall had a few goals in mind prior to the game, firstly to ensure they batted out the 50 overs and then bowled a tight line and length but ultimately to beat Cowra on their home ground,” Meddings said.
“Mission achieved on all counts.”
