TOP CITIZEN: Nine news presenter and Young Australia Day ambassador Peter Overton presented Sam Tout the Citizen of the Year award during the Australia Day ceremony at Carrington Park.

AMBASSADOR: Peter Overton described Young as an “embracement community” during his speech.

CHILLIN': Chilling in the park on Australia Day was Alan O'Sullivan and his mum Gwen O'Sullivan.

SPIRIT: Right into the Australia Day spirit during Young’s Australia Day ceremony in Carrington Park was Lynne and Colin Apps of Prunevale.	

CELEBRATIONS: Judy and Phill Nauthe of the Blue Mountains celebrated Australia Day with Young’s Jan and Paul Parker at Carrington Park under beautiful sunny skies.									

COMPETITION: Wombat’s popular Best Decorated Bike competition was a hit again this year, with plenty of pimped-out rides rolling around during the street parade. 									

A WALK IN THE PARK: Making a trip down to Carrington Park on Australia Day was Kayla (9), Mitchell (11), mum Michelle and Elyse (9) Bennett.								 				

FOR THE LOVE OF IT: Eight-year-old Anneliese Rothe said she loved hopping up on stage to perform poetry, which was all part of the Australia day celebrations. 		 (ausdaycs (39))

AWARD: Deputy mayor Ben Cooper pictured with 2016 Junior Sportsperson of the Year, Jacob Lucas. 	           

TUCKER’S ON: Rachel Walker of Sydney joined the flock of people who lined up for breakfast morning, being served by Rotarians Rosalie Byrne and Fay Thompson. 

EXCITING: Councillor Allan Miller presented the Business of the Year Award to MA Steel representative Barbara Arabin who accepted the award on behalf of John and Kerrie Coulter. 					 

SIT BACK AND RELAX: Renee Lucas and her son Jacob were among the those who brought along the family picnic rug to sit on in the park on Australia Day.


Colour-coordinating her outfit for Australia Day was Lily Meacham (8).

IT’S ART! Nicola Franklin (7) was a living canvas in the face painting stall.		

QUIET ACHIEVER: Young’s Darren Green upon receiving his Mayoral Award. 		 

WINNER: Best Junior Engine display in Wombat went to Jason Bailey who was presented his award by Australia Day ambassador Warren Potent. 						

COOLING DOWN: Samantha Malkav (7) cools down with an ice block while Alycia McDonall (15) is enjoying the shade on Australia Day.

PICNIC: Darcy (6), Jonty (4) and Bruce Mason, along with Chris and Diana Fraser - all of Young - found the perfect spot in Carrington Park during the Australia Day celebrations.

PROUD: Councillor Tony Wallace presented the 2016 Cultural Award to Young Theatre Company representative Carole Clark. 

NEW CITIZENS: Hargurpreet Singh, Japnoor Kaur (7), Gurnoor Virk (13), Kuljit Kaur, Harpreet Kaur and Sukhjit Singh, all originally from India, became Australian citizens in Young. They were presented their citizenship during the Australia Day ceremony in Carrington Park.											 (ausdaycs (92))

MENTOR: Lizzie Butt was recognised as Junior Citizen of the Year for her leadership and mentoring role in the community. Cr Sandy Freudenstein presented the award.	         (ausdayELL (156))

TRADITION: Steve Boland, in his Australia Day get-up and camping chair, is becoming a familiar sight in Carrington Park on Australia Day.

BALLOONS! Two-year-old William Bell loved his balloon animal he was given from a clown.


BROTHERS: Spending Australia Day together in Carrington Park were  Jacob (4), Isaac (6) and Xavier (1) Prest.		         (ausdaycs (101))

TOGETHER: Charlie, Lizzie, Glen and Mandy Butt, and Gordon and Kym Steele had a chance to catch-up in Carrington Park on Australia Day.

ROAD TRIP: Young was the halfway point for visitors Rachel Walker of Sydney, Luana Ransom of Brisbane - now of Tumut - and Julie and Britney Hanlon of Tarana near Bathurst, who decided to spend Australia Day in the town.			 (ausdaycs (65))

ALL DRESSED UP: In their Australia Day get-up was Mayoral Award recipient Darren Green and wife Katrina, and Jacqui and Paul Smith.
