The 64-year-old musician, whose daughter Peaches Geldof was found dead in her Kent home in April 2014, spoke to the Daily Mirror about the moment he learnt Peaches had died from a heroin overdose, the same way her mother Paula Yates had died 14 years earlier.

"At the time, with Peach I mean, immediately afterwards, I was extremely angry with her and probably that was the energy you discerned, it wasn't a positive thing at all," Geldof told the Mirror.

The Boomtown Rats member added that he tried not to get "drippy or sentimental" about the loss of his wife and daughter.

"I watch against myself getting drippy or sentimental about either of them, although I loved them to the core of my soul and still do," he said, adding that he did sometimes find himself "blubbing" when "the need arises".

"I think male crying is somehow different, it seems to come and last a bit and then it goes," he said.

Geldof's comments come after Peaches' widower, musician Tom Cohen, played his first solo show since her death.

The 25-year-old, who has two young sons from his marriage to Peaches, introduced a track from his new album Bloom Forever, which he said was about "living in Kent".

Lyrics in the album, believed to heavily allude to his relationship with Peaches included, "You couldn't make it through. Time to say goodbye. Holding onto each other and sing to one another. Everyone knows the house feels so cold. Just to say goodbye."

Peaches' younger sister Pixie, 25, and Cohen's new model girlfriend (and friend of Peaches) Daisy Lowe, 26, were in the audience.
