The man came to the attention of police when he was heard to make loud squealing pig noises approximately 10 metres away from where two officers were standing in the frozen section of the supermarket.
The torment continued in the supermarket until the officers departed.
As the man departed the store, he walked to his car, which was parked next to the police vehicle and said, “yeah what’s up bro’”.
The officers noticed the man had red, glazed eyes and his speech was slightly slurred.
Asked if he was affected by drugs, the man didn’t answer so they conducted a search, whereupon they discovered various items secreted in his trousers.
The man was issued with two criminal infringement notices for offensive language and shoplifting.
Another $500 infringement notice was issued on January 24, after police heard a McLerie Street resident swearing at police.
Police were patrolling the area around 10.45pm when the incident occurred.
