With the first race timed to start at 5.37pm, and free admission available, all that is needed is for a weather forecast that predicts a fine night, with the Young Lions Club again on hand to provide a barbecue of the highest standard together with a refreshment stall that has the coldest beer in town.
The night opens with a 2100m metre event, the selections being Flip Wilson from gate three, Corrinyah Conman from the one gate, Chip Leader from a second line draw and the resuming local pacer, Vavadous for Jason Grimson.
This opening race will surely be a great event to open the night’s proceedings and the mile rating should give an insight into the condition of the track.
The second race is over a similar distance with Royal Canvas the selection following some consistent form in recent weeks.
The dangers are Go Lassie Go, Young track specialist Mod Cons and the locally-trained Four Jesters for the consistent Micallef stable.
Moving on to race three and here the chances in the 2100 metre event are Smack Dab Shannon who comes out of gate three, the Grenfell-trained Kenny Trickem for Mark Hewitt, another Young track specialist in Go Scotty and Soky’s Big Bullet who has the inside second line draw.
Race four will be from the shorter 1720 starting point in the straight and the selections are Vintage Cullen, Homestead Lad, the consistent Alabama Ace from gate one and backmarker Bullion Hall.
Mirrool trainer Steve Maguire should take the prize with She’s All Business who will enjoy the shorter journey and gate two in race five.
The hardest to beat will include Cherry Express who could lead in this from gate one while Amanda Jay and Glenburn Anna should fill the minor placings in what should be a good race.
Mark Hewitt has the opportunity to drive a double if jumping Jack Jimmy can find his form over the 1720 metres in race six.
In what looks a tricky race, the Grenfell-trained pacer will face strongest opposition from Stylish Trend, Line My Pockets and possibly Camroller from a hard second line draw.
Junee reinsman Bruce Harpley has had a difficult time with King Crocker but if on his best behaviour should be too strong for the opposition in race seven.
Coming out of gate one over the sprint journey, he should lead and set a solid pace throughout to defeat Yearn For You, Beau Studleigh and Lorna Ella.
Finding winners doesn’t get any easier as we look at race eight.
Satellite Hall is from a strong stable and should give a great sight with possibly the Murringo pacer Barkway Bill the main danger.
This fellow won in impressive fashion some time back at Canberra and could easily reproduce that performance again in this type of race.
Another locally-trained pacer in Moonlight Gambler looks well suited here and could give a bold showing while If You Can, also trained on the track will be finishing on as usual and could be the knockout horse at good each way odds.
The final race of the night will be run at 9.41pm with another very competitive field facing the starter for the 1720 metre event.
Two runners off the front line look the main two chances, Gotta Love Grace and Swoop Like A Magpie. Both have similar form and driving tactics could tell the story as to the final outcome.
Backmarkers Dontknockuntilutry and the Wombat Wonder, Concertina could be running on over the concluding stages in what could well be the best race of the night.
