And there’s one a very familiar face among them.

Local Robert Cullen, Lizzie Coolican from Sydney and Alice Riley from Coonabarabran all began their school year with the college last month.

Robert, who was previously a learning support staff member at the school for seven years, has completed his teaching degree at the University of New England and is now into his first year.

He’ll be teaching science to Years 7 to 11.

“It’s very rewarding and very exhausting,” Robert said of his first few weeks of teaching.

And Robert’s already raised a few eyebrows which hasn’t gone unnoticed at the college.

During his university studies, he was presented the Vice Chancellor Award for Academic Excellence three years in a row.

“You can teach an old dog new tricks,” Robert said.

Principal Chris Browne said Robert was a great example of lifelong learning.

Meanwhile the fresh faces of Lizzie and Alice and their experience add to Hennessy’s teaching calibre this year.

Lizzie, who hails from the city and is in her second year of teaching, said living in a country town is really different.

“It’s pretty good so far,” she said.

She’s teaching Years 7 to 11 in English, geography, history, legal studies and religion.

Alice - who’s also in her second year, having first taught at Singleton - knows all too well what it’s like living in the country.

“I’m loving it (Young),” she said.

“It’s bigger which is nice, there’s more shops, more festivals and more clubs to be involved in.”

She’s teaching history, geography and religion.
