It is understood the man was camping with his family in the Douglas Daly region when the reptile allegedly pulled him out of his tent by his foot in the early hours of April 25.
ABC Darwin is reporting that the man told hospital staff a “four-metre saltwater crocodile” was responsible for the attack.
A Department of Health source said the man was in a stable condition, adding that he was expected to remain in hospital overnight.
Parks and Wildlife Commission NT has been contacted for a comment.
