Nervous energy filled the air at the Wagga Commercial Club as performers waited for the few minutes to show the judges - three of the television show’s producers - what they were made of.
The auditions turned a usually bustling club into a quiet room where hopefuls waited to seal their fate.
People sat silently in the waiting area as they listened for their number to be called.
Hopefuls sang quietly to themselves or tuned their guitars but there was very little conversation among those trying out.
A security guard stood at the door to the audition room to make sure only those permitted to could pass.
For Ross the whole process was a bit daunting and he said he wasn’t quite sure how he felt he went because the judges “all had poker faces”.
“[I went] okay, I wasn’t getting any reaction and I wasn’t thinking straight,” the 19-year-old said.
Ross, who’s been singing for about seven years, sang ‘Curse My Life’ by a Sydney singer named Hein Cooper, while also playing his guitar.
His girlfriend Emme Williams was by his side in support.
Ross now awaits for that much anticipated phone call from the judges telling him he’s through to the next round, the live auditions that are so famously televised.
“They said if you get through we’ll call, if you don’t you won’t hear from us,” Ross said.
