The girls from Tumut were able to move the ball around well and so the Cherryettes had to shut this down before they were able to get the flow of the game going.
The Cherryette’s continued to demonstrate how strong their defence was, making it difficult for Tumut to break through. The team talk was outstanding and the Cherryettes were able to continue to challenge the Tumut girls.
The Cherryette’s executed a play taught by their coaches. Jess McInerney was able to put Ash Carroll through the first hole for her to finish straight under the posts.
The team sprit soon lifted and the Cherryettes came out firing.
The next play saw Ally Smith go through for Young’s next try, taking the score to 10-nil. Laura Eastlake successfully converted her second, taking the score to 12-nil.
The Cherryettes continued to challenge Tumut’s boundaries who started to worry and mark some of the Cherryette’s key players in attempt to shut down passes.
Before long Annie Turner shot through on the side line to score the next try, 16-nil.
Half time saw the Cherryette’s get some much-needed advice in relation to working the ball in the wet conditions. The advice paid off when Danika Coddington was able to place Anna Hall through a quick hole to go in for another try.
The Cherryette’s were forced to work on their defence when Tumut held possession of the ball due to dropped ball from wet conditions and small mistakes under fatigue.
Tumut placed up a big bomb and Ally Smith took the ball well. From here she was able to take an 80 metre try that unfortunately wasn’t converted.
The final score was 24-nil, leaving the Cherryettes in the top 4 of the Group Nine competition.
