Caitlyn Jenner is to appear on the cover of leading US sports magazine Sports Illustrated dressed only in an American flag and sporting her Olympic gold medal in a rare acknowledgement of her previous life as a champion male athlete.

Her appearance on the magazine's summer cover is being timed to mark the 40th anniversary of her world record-breaking victory at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, when she won the men's decathlon event as Bruce Jenner.
It will be the first time Jenner, star of the television reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians, will have appeared publicly with the medal since she re-emerged last year as a woman, according to Us Weekly magazine, which broke the cover picture story.
Jenner has previously kept it hidden at the bottom of her make-up drawer, despite describing it as her "most prized possession".
"I'm so proud of it," she wrote in a blog posted lasted year shortly after her gender change.
"However, I never wanted my kids to feel like they had to have a gold medal in order to be considered a success. I didn't want them to constantly compare their own achievements to my time in the Olympics, so I haven't displayed my medal."
In an accompanying video showing her taking the medal from its place in the drawer, she added: "That was a great time of my life. But to be honest with you, it's an even greater time of my life right now with what I'm trying to accomplish."
Jenner, 66, made her public debut as a woman on the front cover of last July's edition of Vanity Fair magazine, where she was pictured wearing a white figure-hugging body suit in a portrait shot taken by Annie Leibovitz and accompanied by the headline "Call me Caitlyn".
She entered America's ongoing controversy over transgender rights to public toilets last week when she posted a video on Facebook of her using the women's facilities at the Trump Tower in New York after Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, said she would be allowed to do so.
Jenner and several other celebrities have criticised a law introduced in North Carolina that bans transgenders from using toilet facilities of their chosen gender, decreeing instead that they can only use lavatories consistent with the sex on their birth certificates.
The US justice department wrote on Wednesday to Pat McGrory, North Carolina's governor, warning him that the law violates civil rights statutes and that the state risks being sued and losing hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funds if it tries to enforce it.
