The initiative, which is in conjunction with NRMA Insurance, enables the general public to help raise awareness and to show their appreciation for the 40,000 SES volunteers across Australia who are always helping their communities.
Mikayla Basham from the Young NRMA office will hold a morning tea for SES members and asked the community to join in at the cost of a gold coin to be donated to the local SES.
“We’re proud to work alongside the NSW SES in order to make our communities safer, stronger and more resilient, and wish to say a big thank you to the local branch of the NSW SES,” she said.
“I think it is a fantastic opportunity to paint the town orange. We’re asking the town of Young to get involved and as many people as possible to dress in Orange, take a ‘selfie’ and upload it to www.wearorangewednesday.com.au.”
People can also share their selfies on social media with #thankyouSES to show their support.
The NSW SES has around 9000 volunteers across the state, ranging in age from 16 up to 80 and involved in activities as diverse as flood rescue, tarping roofs, clearing fallen trees, community education, logistics, planning and communications.
To get involved in this year’s WOW Day go to: www.wearorangewednesday.com.au. or contact your local SES.
