The statue known as EDGAR is an interpretation of the statue shown to King Nebuchadnezzar in the Chapter two of the book of Daniel.
Pastor Ben Kosmeir of the Young Seventh-day Adventist Church said that each section of EDGAR represented a different empire.
“EDGAR’s golden head is representative of the Babylonian kingdom, his silver chest is representative of the Persian kingdom, his bronze thighs are representative of the Greek empire and his iron legs are representative of the Roman empire,” he said.
He said it’s certainly been a headturner for the town.
“Everyone was slowing down to look - it certainly slowed traffic,” he said.
And the reason for its presence?
The church is hosting a series of free seminars geared to give the public insight into the inside world of bible prophecy.
The seminars are being held in the Marie McCormick Centre across Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights until May 29.
Each night consists of two sessions and are being presented by Landers Brooke-Kelly and Rhys Thompson-Jones - keen students of biblical history, prophecy and current world events.
The first session, held last weekend, had 35 attendees, according to Ben.
He hopes more will be interested enough to sign up for the remaining two weekends which look at, among other topics, The Mystery of the Lost Ark.
