The day started with the Under 18s taking on arch rivals Bathurst and what a game this was.

In conditions that suited an olympic swim team more than footballers both sides managed to play some entertaining footy which would have put dry weather football to shame.

The lead changed too many times to count and for both teams to score more goals than behinds just went to show what kind of game this was.

Hamish Gledhill had another cracker in the ruck and was well supported by Brayden Harmer-Clark who again read everything the opposition could throw at them to put the saints on the front foot.

It was a day for the brothers and Brodie Harmer-Clark again put in a typical solid performance, as did the Pennell brothers.

Bailey held the backline together and played his best game to date, but it was Jayden Pennell who really shone. His all-round game was spot on.

His defence was brutal both in the backs and on ball, and when he pushed forward he did so with guts and not only scored points, but set up a majority of YOung’s scoring opportunities.

This performance earned him CTR Trophies’ best on ground.

The Saintees had their second game against the Cowra Blues on the weekend, and what a great game it was.

The girls went out with their heads held high in the hopes of another great win, and to show the crowd their improvement. 

The girls knew they would have to play hard and use their technique, given the wet weather, and that’s exactly what they did. They showed everyone they play wet weather footy the best.

The first quarter started off just as great as they expected, with great talk right from the centre bounce all the way down to our forward line.

With the first quarter coming to an end the girls were proud of the 19-nil scoreline. WIth a quick pep talk they went back out on the field to give another hard quarter right from their defence line all the way to the forward line.

Their determination showed again at half time when the Saintees continued to keep the Blues scoreless, 41-nil.

The girls knew they still had to put up a strong backline and keep the ball from entering the 50, something they achieved with the help of Renee Hardwick, Michaela Perceval, Rachel Denniss and Maddi Parr who kept the defence strong.

The midfielders clicked this week and finally got the talk going, with captain Caitlin Albert working the midfield alongside Emily Poultin, Grace Silk and Bridgette Windsor who showed quick play and technique to protect each other and get the ball down the field.

It was Katrina Roe’s first game and boy did she put on a show in the midfield with her quick play and skills. She’s a key player in our midfield.

As half time hit the rain started getting heavier, but that wasn’t stopping the girls who put in another two hard quarters to keep the Blues scoreless right until the final siren. 

The final score was 10.13.73 - 0.0.0.

The forward line showed great talk and quick play making space and protecting each other to get plenty of shots on goal.

A key player in the forward line this week was Megan Mayoh who has been out with injury but returned this week to bomb goals left, right and centre. If she wasn’t protecting her other forward line players she was getting them to the goals.

Madeline Roe also had her first game and showed skill and fast legs in the forward line. She will also be a great asset to our club.

Isabelle Gilchrist played a stellar game  in the forward line, kicking her first goal of the season.

The girls were proud of their win and could see the improvement in themselves.

The Saintees have earned a weekend off due to the long weekend, but will continue training hard in preparation to take on the Bathurst Bushrangers the following weekend.

First Grade then took to the paddock, or should that be swamp?

Nevertheless the Saints came out firing and totally shocked the Rebels, pushing them right to the final siren.

Once again in atrocious conditions both teams went end-to-end with the Rebels coming out on top with goal kicking the difference.

With players performing from back to up front the team gelled and played as a solid unit.

Phil Baumhammer was a standout on the wing and did a brilliant job in attack and defence.

Jarrod Pope again played strongly from fullback, and Ron Roe Snr and Ronnie Roe Jnr put on an exhibition in the forward lines.

But the standout player was Justin Kelly who rucked for the entire game and gained more possessions than anyone from either side. His effort earned him the Stewarts Jeweller’s players player award.

With last week’s effort one of, if not the best team performance of the season, things are looking up for the Saints for the remainder of 2016.

On Sunday the Under 14s travelled to Dubbo and after their last game - 100 plus point loss - the lads put in an extreme effort and came away with a hard-fought 53 points loss.

The boys played their hearts out and won plenty of admirers from both Young and Dubbo.

First time player Pita Cooper was awarded best on ground for his tireless rucking effort and he is going to become a vital asset to the team this season.

Lachlan Crouch and Beau Harmer-Clark, along with Aiden Pratt, were the side’s next best.

The ability to play free-flowing football and some mighty fine hand and kicking skills will see the junior Saints very soon snare their first win of the season.
